Our Program
Outline of Career Placement Services™:Step 1: Evaluation:
Our skilled team will interact with the athlete to start to gauge the athlete’s distinctive characteristics that will provide the highest probability for success in the business world. Starting to get to know the athlete as a person and their personality is an important step so we can better serve you. This process includes the following:
- Provide general advice for active and/or retired athletes regarding career transition from playing professional sports into the world of business.
- Immediately start working with our team to provide a lifestyle and financial assessment and career development plan, as well as offer recommendations for any needed changes.
Step 2: Discussion and identification of a few talking points in a candidate’s history:
- What the athlete has done in his or her life that may apply to the business world.
-
What is the athlete’s current education level?
- If finished college or if a degree is something they wanted to consider if not already in place.
- What are the athlete’s strengths and weaknesses and how do they see themselves?
- What would the athlete think they would like to do if they could choose their career after sport?
- Any other pertinent life experience that may apply to the uniqueness of the individual?
- Is the athlete comfortable in front of people including public speaking?
Step 3: Education:
Our program already has well established relationships with universities. Our Career Placement Plus™ program applies to candidates regardless of educational status. Our services include the following:
- Helping a candidate get their necessary transcripts.
- Get the maximum number of credits possible for the athlete based on past academic and life achievements.
- Give the athlete the opportunity to enroll in a university and graduate and walk during the graduation ceremony.
- Identify how many credits and what applicable curriculum is available to complete a degree.
- Get athlete’s academic credit for their life experiences. (Sports Management).
- Help with outdated credits and make sure they apply to the candidate’s current credit level.
- Coordinate with career development professionals to assist players with career exploration, assessment and development, as well as help players finish degrees and/or enroll in graduate school and/or post-graduate classes.
- Evaluate and manage the educational needs of the players. This process would include creating curriculums and forming alliances with necessary educational institutions that would provide the athlete with a unique educational opportunity that fits their requirements.
Step 4: Résumé Preparation:
Our team at Cambridge specializes in making sure a résumé highlights the success of the candidate and that the résumé is the most efficient presentation that will lead to immediate differentiation. Cambridge will provide full scale résumé writing services.
Step 5: Testing:
Cambridge is notorious for having candidates take tests that best identify success based attributes for our candidates. Identifying these attributes increases the probability that there will be a harmonious fit for an employer and a candidate. Cambridge’s Career Placement Plus™ includes a few logistical friendly tests that identify what strengths the candidates have as a result of their past experience and what makes them special in their personality. Once the standard tests are completed, Cambridge will then have the candidate take a more targeted test program when applicable. These tests are easy to take either via fax or on-line and are logistically friendly for the athlete. These tests will identify the following:
- EQ or Emotional Quotient.
- Level of drive and urgency a candidate has for finding career opportunities.
- Career Assessment Test.
- Psychological Evaluation.
Step 6: Review of test results with the candidate:
Cambridge will get all results from the initial round of testing back and these results will remain 100% confidential. Each test will be generally discussed with the candidate to point out where the strengths and weaknesses are in the testing cycle. All consultation will be based on a positive outlook for the candidate, but also at Cambridge we pride ourselves on being truthful, open and honest with the candidate with their results. Many case studies have been identified in the past where candidates believe they were good at one type of business, but end up being great at another and our tests and these subsequent discussions will give the candidate the highest probability of success in the career decision.
Step 7: (Optional) Additional tests are administered if necessary:
Once the benchmark for a candidates strengths and weaknesses are established the experienced team will be able to then determine if additional testing would be beneficial. For example, additional testing could be a test to show whether a candidate would be better suited for a sales and marketing role or for a consulting sales role. Our testing program is designed to give the highest probability of success for all people involved in this process including the athlete.
Step 8: Identify target companies for our clients:
After the above steps are completed we will identify target companies that may be suitable for you. We will do all the work for you and make all the client introductions and make sure that the right match is found.
Step 9: Interview Preparation:
This is one of the most important steps in the process. We will assess a candidate on their overall presentation and fine-tune their interview skills. We help the candidate get the most out of their interview and make sure they always have the opportunity to leave a lasting impression. This is a training session to help the candidate practice the art of interview. Cambridge will provide suggestions on interview attire, buzz words for interviewing and background on specific industries and positions so the candidate can have the most knowledge possible for an interview.
Step 10: (Optional) Public Speaking / Speaking Events:
We at Cambridge believe that public speaking is a great skill to have and is helpful for almost any job in the world of business. We have a national program that will apply and provide the opportunity to the candidate to hone this important skill if this is something of interest. For Example:
- Speaker Series: Case Study Topics
- Player transition success stories
- Post big money financial strategy
- Psychology of what happens post career
- Real salary reality
- Investing the Athletes profile
Step 11: Job Placement:
Cambridge has spent years building its reputation and has many already established relationships with companies both nationally and internationally. Not only will Cambridge get the candidate ready for the world of business, but we have the reach and ability to actually place the candidate and bring the candidate full cycle onto the field in the world of business.
